Is Our Struggle Against Each Other? Focusing on the question "Is our struggle against each other?" the December 1993 retreat of the African and Latino Youth Summit (ALYS) in Big Bear Lake California (pictured here) engaged 80 high school youth and advisors from the Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Inglewood and Compton school districts. Throughout the weekend the high school teams were encouraged to reflect on the institutional and interpersonal sources of tension between Africans and Latinos. Through workshops on conflict resolution and political education students worked together to develop campus-specific action plans aimed at building solidarity among their peers. The retreat culminated with the formation of an ALYS support network for future work among campus teams. For further information write to African and Latino Youth Summit, P.O.
