<< Labor Monday (9-9) | Main | Another Roach Gem >> September 09, 2002Is Death Penalty worth the attentionThis posting on the death penalty by Politics and Policy blog captures some of my sentiments on the death penalty-- that life in prison is in many ways just as bad and that debate is overblown on an issue that involves just 100 executions a year in a world of many murders and 2 million people in jail. One reason for liberal attention to the issue, aside from its drama, is the fact that the courts continue to offer tools to fight it, while the casual destruction of millions of teen lives due to drug laws is sanctioned by the courts with almost no qualification. Outside the courts in everyday lives and in democratic politics, mandatory minimums and idiotic drug laws should be the focus of liberal and progressive attention. (Thanks Jeff for pointing out the post.) Posted by Nathan at September 9, 2002 10:51 AM Related posts:
