Very encouraging. John Sweeney has done a great drop in what are, admittedly, difficult times for labor.

The AFL-CIO decision only confirms that "the Left has lost the ability to think right", just like half the Democrats. Come election time, both will pay. Sooner or later it will become clear TO ALL who supports the liberation of Iraq and who opposes it.

You know, even if you take the above poster at his word -- that the AFL is opposing the war because they're Dems -- it's still significant. As Harold Meyerson points out in the L.A. Weekly this week, the anti-war movement is the most mobilized the broad Democratic base has been in recent memory. While Freepers have taken this as an indictment, no anti-war movement has ever been so widespread to represent the momentum of a political party (perhaps nuclear freeze in the 80s?).

So if we can't stop this bloodletting, perhaps it means we can stop the next one (as long as it's scheduled for post-2004).

This is indeed great news. Almost good enough to make one forget about the latest union density figures the BLS released this week. Ugh!
