He just might be dead. He'd more likely be arrested (and held for an indefinite period). He certainly wouldn't be there for three days. And you can bet it would be all over the news.

Interesting... he'd definitely be dead if he were Arab. The coverage is what has amazed me... I've hardly seen anything about it at all. If I didn't read the Washington Post I probably would have missed it altogether.

Although, speaking as a DC resident, this story was all over the local news, but portrayed with an air of bemused resignation ("what'll they think of next?") rather than the alarmism that we probably would have seen if the guy had been an Arab.
What this incident says about the security of the Mall is another sad story altogether.

Remember the idiot who sat on the Wilson Bridge all day, snarling traffic for miles around? He was black and he survived. So knock off the attempt at a racial angle. For the record, I'd like to pop ol' Dwight one upside the head, white boy or no.

Hey Ken, the guy on the Wilson bridge was trying to kill himself and was unarmed, not threatening to blow other people up with explosives. And the police did shoot him with non-lethal ammunition within a few hours-- causing him to jump/fall from the bridge. See here

So your story actually proves the point-- an unarmed black man gets taken out by the police within hours, while a white farmer with explosives is left along for three days.

And you better believe an arab right now wouldn't last an hour.

to answer your questions-no, and no. Seriously, I live in a midwestern state known for a lot of rural, white craziness from militia types, tax protesters et al. The police always handle them very carefully, and avoid confrontations whenever possible. why? because they're dangerous and unpredictable as hell. One shot an officer to death here just the other day.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious--but, is this a good example of how Homeland Security works? What if the dude was some kind of Timothy McVeigh type?
