<< Pandemics of Mass Destruction | Main | Punitive Punishment? Corporations v. the Poor >> April 07, 2003Enviro Killers of Mass DestructionHere's another mass murderer-- five million childhood deaths a year on its belt: The World Health Organization (WHO) -- reporting that more than 5 million children die every year from diseases and accidents arising from immediate environmental conditions -- is calling on member states and non-governmental organizations to take more concerted action to reduce the toll of environmental hazards on children's lives. From air pollution causing respiratory infections to poisoned water causing fatal diarrhea, correctable environmental causes are killing children daily. As troops in Iraq sift for whatever evidence there is of chemical weapons, we have to keep asking where is the focus on the real mass killers in the world? Morgan at April 8, 2003 10:15 PM On Robert Moragan's comment: It's absurd to compare a rich country like the USA to poor countries like China, Russia or Mexico in their giving of foreign aid. Americans enjoy roughly 8 times the gdp/capita of the Chinese and Russians, and 4 times that of the Mexicans. Posted by: Simon Rippon at April 9, 2003 11:11 PM Hi, Posted by: Robert S.
