Fed Culture Panel Chair Resigns over Iraq Museum Looting

Denouncing the recent looting of antiquities in Iraq as a "tragedy", the chairman of the President's Advisory Committee on Cultural Property resigned and denounced the looting as "due to our nation's inaction."

"The reports in recent days about the looting of Iraq's National Museum of Antiquities and the destruction of countless artifacts that document the cradle of Western civilization have troubled me deeply, a feeling that is shared by many other Americans," he wrote.

Rumsfeld in the article just shrugged his shoulders and asked what could the government do? It's funny and sad that the Bush administration said inaction in Iraq was a test of the UN's credibility, but the administration's broad inaction to prevent the wholesale looting and destruction of Iraq's cultural patrimony was nothing they really had any responsibility for. Rumsfeld trumpets the success of their intricate plans for warfare but takes no responsibility that no plans were made to secure a sane peace in its aftermath.
