<< Pigs at the Iraqi Trough | Main | Consistency on Gay Rights? >> June 17, 2003Where's the Jobs? The wondrous effects of the Bush tax cuts seem not to have impressed employers. According to a Manpower survey, hiring in the coming quarter looks even bleaker than the last few years: Across industries, a net 11 percent of the 16,000 employers Manpower surveyed said they expect to increase their hiring activity in the third quarter. That's down from 13 percent in the second quarter, and well below the 19 percent in the third quarter last year. What is needed is not money pissed down the hole of Bush's wealthy buddies, but real spending on real jobs. Between new affordable housing, public infrastructure, and investments in renewable energy resources, there are plenty of places for public investment to create those jobs. 'cause these tax cuts sure are not doing the trick. Posted by Nathan at June 17, 2003 10:06 AM Related posts:
Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: CommentsJust an anecdote, but the Hartford Courant, which usually gets the lions share of tech job classifieds in CT, had only two or three jobs listed this week. That's the lowest I've ever seen in there, and more what I expect from the New Haven paper. In months past, when I've looked, the Courant would have at least a column or so's worth of tech jobs. I suppose the Hartford insurance companies are sending their jobs overseas. Posted by: Jon H at June 24, 2003 02:56 PM Post a comment
