<< Legal Monstrosity of Conference Committee | Main | Labor Teaches Yale Advanced Lesson >> September 20, 2003Iraq: From Russia With LoveBringing in the Expert-- How to Loot a Country Read this article from Matt Taibibi in what he calls a Holy-Shit-O-Gram. The United States is bringing in Yegor Gaidar to advise them on how to privatize Iraq's industries. Why is this an appalling dsgrace? Because Gaidar was the man who presided in the Yeltsin years and handed the country over to the "oligarchs" who robbed the country blind. Read the article- that Gaidar is in Iraq is all you need to know about the evil intentions of the Bush administration in the country. Posted by Nathan at September 20, 2003 12:56 AM Related posts:

Now we get the worst of all worlds. It's unbelieveable. I'm stunned by this news. Posted by: Paper Trail 2004 at September 20, 2003 08:00 AM Anyone who's been paying attention should not be surprised by this. Right after Baghdad fell Bush put a senior executive of Cargill in charge of Iraq's agriculture sector, and a recent NY Times piece mentioned that they even want to privatize the universities. Fortunately, reality seems to finally be penetrating the 1st few layers of their thick skulls, and they're holding off on these privatization plans. What's funny is, it seems to be the World Bank that is convincing them of the insanity of this -- at least for the time being: "Bremer was open to our ideas and was convinced of the need to slow down," said a World Bank official who attended the meeting. "We asked him to consider the ripple effects on the economy if we moved too quickly and he was particularly concerned about unemployment."
