<< Tax Giveways to Corporations | Main | Unionization and Politics >> October 02, 2003Rush in Drug StingNew York Daily news has a front page story on Rush Limbaugh in pill probe-- meaning Rush may be about to be arrested for illegal use of drugs (prescription ones in his case). But he doesn't deal on the street-- no, no, no; he deals in drugs like any good rich person: he had his maid act as his connection: The moralizing motormouth was turned in by his former housekeeper - who says she was Limbaugh's pill supplier for four years...All this from a man who regularly attacks drug legalization callers as "pot heads" and has beat the drums for long jail sentences for illegal drug users. I'm against the drug war, but maybe having Rush in jail might center some minds on the costs of the war. Of couse, Rush abused elite drugs, not street drugs, so he's far less likely to get a serious sentence-- part of the racism and elitism of our drug laws. But even a short time in jail could change his perspective quite a bit.

Of course, we don't know that he crushed it for the immediate high -- he might just have popped them like percocet. If Limbaugh were honest, he would demand to be prosecuted. Posted by: paul at October 2, 2003 12:29 PM My, my, my. Twice in re-hab already too. No doubt one of those $60K programs that street adicts never see. I guess that puts the lie to the right's meme that being unable to kick a habit is a sign of personal weakness. But I have to disagree with your assessment of oxycontin as an "elite drug". While it used to be, it is now a street drug, and at least here in Florida we are starting to toss doctors in jail who are not super careful in how they perscribe it. Also, there is a big matter of quantity involved here. The quantities mentioned seem way too high for even an adict to tollerate, especially considering other drugs were also involved. There is definitely going to be a suggestion that he was passing it on to others. And if that is the case, Rush's next treatment program will be from inside a jail. No out-patient if you're a dealer. Posted by: Benedict@Large at October 2, 2003 12:33 PM Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot (sorry - couldn't resist), so his tolerance levels start out higher than a "normal" sized person. Add the constant usage (the effectiveness of which decreases over time) with a coincident increase in usage for the same effect, and the quantity numbers begin to make some sense. Posted by: pessimist at October 2, 2003 05:03 PM It is very interesting that Oxycontin has been reported as causing deafness in abusers. I wonder if Limbaugh has "heard" this. Posted by: Jon H at October 2, 2003 09:05 PM its amazing. not saying its not true, maybe it is , well see. but for god sakes there are no charges yet. why dont we wait to see what happens before we so anxiously pass our judgement. isnt that what you all claim rush does. "pass judgement about things he knows nothing about" youd all do well to wait and see before spewing junk before you know the truth. that way you dont look like idiots later!!!!!
