His family is okay, but he urges folks to support the union Hardship Fund. This is the result of state budget cuts, which in turn are the result of lousy national policies that are leading to cuts in education across the country. That $374 billion deficit isn't free money-- we are paying for it in slashed education funding, poorer local services and slashed wages for local workers. I like that you tie this to Bush's deficit. When the economy is bad, the people who are hardest off need the most help. Yet because of his tax cuts, there is no money for the states, and workers all over are feeling the pain.
