His domestic policies alone should disqualify him from even being a member of the SI. One doesn't have to be a socialist to be in the SI, but one should at least be a social democrat, not a neo-liberal, "third-way," politician. Posted by: Paleo at October 29, 2003 02:42 PM Maybe this new membership of the PRI in the SI is a clear sign of the nature of that international. Many parties and wannabe parties in Mexico are self identified to SI. But only PRI has the control of union's burocracies. No worker is confident of that so called unions in Mexico. Posted by: Francisco Javier Lagunes-Gaitan at November 3, 2003 12:41 AM Francisco- It's definitely a sign of its openness-- it seems that almost any party willing to say it supports its principles are allowed to join. Hopefully, it means a turn by the PRI in trying to strengthen its left policies. The challenge its getting from the PRD mayor of Mexico City definitely shows that it's challenge is increasingly from its left. It's all part of the general shift of politics in Latin America away from neoliberalism to at least progressive rhetoric. We will see if policy follows.
