<< Pottery Barn Denounces Powell | Main | Labor Roundup >> April 20, 2004Die Mercenary DieWhy are we using Apartheid death squad killers in the Iraqi Occupation? Because I have zero tears that this security contractor was killed last week: Gray Branfield, 55, admitted to being part of a death squad which gunned down Joe Gqabi, the ANC's chief representative and Umkhonto weSizwe operational head in Zimbabwe on July 31 1981...In South Africa he joined the SA Defence Force's secret Project Barnacle, a precursor to the notorious Civil Co-operation Bureau (CCB) death squad...Let's see, we laid off all the old Iraqi police in order to replace them with Apartheid hit squad members. This is our idea of improving the moral character of those protecting security in Iraq? This is our tax dollars, folks. Paying big bucks to scum of the earth willing to kill for money. Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: CommentsPaging Little Green Footballs! You're really asking for it now. BTW, Gaborone is the capital of Botswana, isn't it? What was the South African Defence Force doing raiding the territory of an actual functioning democracy? You'd think that wouldn't exactly be a great qualification for someone who's supposed to be helping us create democracy in Iraq. Posted by: J. J. Gass at April 20, 2004 05:40 PM J.J.Gass: LGF has not been paged by anyone. Rather, Nathan is excercising his right of free speech, something I've heard a lot about from that quarter lately. Nathan: When I first saw this story, I thought it was a rerun of an earlier story. So this is a new one. Interesting. Posted by: Kathryn Cramer at April 20, 2004 06:55 PM J J, they were in Botswana to attack an ANC intelligence staging post and terrorise the Botswanans into shutting down ANC operations. And please don't forget that those people were the ones helping the U.S. build democracy in Angola, Rhodesia, Mozambique, Lesotho and of course South Africa. So why not Iraq? Posted by: MFB at April 21, 2004 04:48 AM Nathan: Sorry about the extra trackbacks. I added some links to my post. Posted by: Kathryn Cramer at April 21, 2004 06:24 AM I was in the Peace Corps in Botswana in the late '80s. That Gaborone assault traumatized the entire nation, which to this day is a peaceful, multiparty democracy. Fortunately, there weren't many mass-scale attacks like this afterward in Bostwana. Branfield died as he lived, with one exception. At the end, he had US taxpayer money in his billfold. Posted by: jon at April 21, 2004 02:08 PM "with one exception" You sure the CCB wasn't on the CIA payroll? I suppose it would have been narcodollars instead of tax dollars, but whatever, presidential stamp of plausibly deniable approval and all that. Posted by: buermann at April 21, 2004 03:48 PM "This is our tax dollars, folks. Paying big bucks to scum of the earth willing to kill for money." Yup. And the whole damned occupation is nothing but a willingness to kill and subjugate for reasons of political and economic power. Whenever I hear an establishment source opine on how failure is not an option, the thought that always goes through my head is how "failure" IS THE ONLY DESIRABLE OPTION. Anything less than an abject failure (as the establishment defines the word) of the occupation will legitimize further illegal wars of aggression by demonstrating that it's possible to get away with them. Veteran Australian reporter John Pilger makes pretty much the same point, see: http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2004/03/282612.shtml Posted by: David B. at April 21, 2004 08:41 PM Anyone mention littlegreenfootballs? Anyone? Do you want a piece of LGF? Well do you? Do you feel lucky today? Eh punk? Ask Miz Cramer what happens when one incurs the wrath of Charles Johnson and his lizardoid minions. It ain't pretty. So back off on criticizing our brave contractors. They are bringing freedom to the Islamofascists. Their mission is blessed by G_d. Posted by: Jheka at April 22, 2004 02:58 PM Jheka, aka Eugene Belitsky, is one of LGF's more persistant political cyberstalkers. I am amazed that he would invoke my name in this context. Posted by: Kathryn Cramer at April 22, 2004 05:49 PM i remember that on nathan newman's first mercenary post at least half the supposedly leftists posts were actually LGF types impersonating leftists. likewise i doubt that the jheka here is the real jheka. this is based both on the content of the post and the fact that jheka leaves an email that reveals his identity. honestly i would not be surprised if kathryn cramer is pretending to be jheka. it seems like jheka has been harassing kathryn and this might be her way to get back. Posted by: 2pik at April 23, 2004 01:19 AM 2pik: You're lost in a hall of mirrors. Our host has our IP numbers. Posted by: Kathryn Cramer at April 23, 2004 06:09 AM katharyn cramer, perhaps i was being overly honest. perhaps i am being overly honest again when i say that IP numbers do not mean much. one can always use a proxy or switch to another computer. in fact the fact that you mention IP numbers makes me more suspicious since it means that you have given this topic thought. even if you were not the one i seriously doubt the jheka here is the real jheka Posted by: 2pik at April 23, 2004 12:48 PM 2pik: You more or less have it figured. The "Jheka" who posted above is the imposter. He is most likely still posting from his AOL account while I have an SBC account. I had some very strong disagreements with Cramer, which I expressed, but I never harrassed her or encouraged others to do so. In fact, I told some trolls on her blog to stop harrassing her and she thanked me for my help. This was before her heightened sense of victimhood took over and she decided to publish my personal information on her blog (asking people to harrass me), leading to anti-semitic hate mail, harrassment and one or more of her readers defrauding dozens of organizations by ordering products and services in my name. Cramer can't seem to figure any of this out and therefore persists in attacking me. You want to check out my views, do a search for my many posts at LGF (there is only 1 Jheka there and, since AOL accounts are banned, the imposter doesn't post there). You'll see that I just don't do the "raving lunatic" schtick. Mainly I wrote to point out that, yet again, the "jheka" posting above is an impersonator. Posted by: Jheka at May 1, 2004 11:12 PM I see exactly how well things are going in South Africa these days. Mrs.Mandella's torture squads are out of business, that will make thing s better. If you happen to see this , please delete it as well as comment #8 which, obviously, is from the same loser.
