<< Our Society Hates Mothers | Main | Statistics are Not Reality >> June 20, 2004Weirdest WiFi ProblemAway from politics for a second, I have the weirdest wifi problem. When I visit a friend wth my laptop, who has wifi connected to their broadband modem, I can access every website except...the New York Times. It won't load. This happens every day and I can never access it. Any ideas on what could be wrong with a wifi configuration to lead to blocking just one website? Something odd about the New York Times site? I can access the NY Times on wifi at my apartment, so it does seem like it has to be something in the broadband configuration, but it's just the oddest problem. Thoughts? To be honest, more specifics are needed - what error are you getting (if it's a 404, you could try hardcoding the NYT IP addy into your HOSTS file and see if that alleviates the problem.)? Posted by: AngelHedgie at June 20, 2004 10:59 AM It's less likely a problem with the wifi than it is a problem with the different connections. Maybe the NYT's servers has your friend's ISP blocked for some reason. Posted by: Chris Wage at June 20, 2004 01:30 PM are you using a proxy connection, or direct? Can you resolve the address?
