Bush is an Idiot

And I'm being kind in saying that, since the alternative is that he really is a racist.

Apparently, when the Congressional Black Caucus met with Bush recently, he was asked about the coming reauthorization of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. His reply, captured in this article:

Bush said that he was "unfamiliar" with the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and according to [Congressman] Jackson, a hurried Bush said that "when the legislation comes before me, I'll take a look at it, but I don't know about it to comment any more than that, but we will look at it when it comes to us."
That Bush could claim unfamiliarity with the 1965 Act reveals the total apathy Bush has about the history of civil rights, putting a lie to any concerns he may express about bigotry in this nation. Now, Bush could have expressed reservations about some provision or other in the coming reauthorization, but for him not to even know what the Act was or that it was up for reauthorization is racism of the "just doesn't give a damn" category.

Thanks to Demagogue.
