The argument that vouchers will lead to economic and political control of private education is hardly a new theme. The desire for separation of church and state was not originally just about keeping the church out of the state's business; it was also about the reverse. Vouchers open the way for religion to get a signficant portion of their income from the government, which could change their relationship to government quite dramatically.
