<< Light Blogging Due to #@$% M$oft | Main | Labor Monday (8-19) >> August 15, 2002Our unconstitutional governmentOkay, even in my computer-deprived state, I had to note the outrage of Ashcroft and company refusing to report on their domestic judicial and investigative activies to the House Judiciary Committee-- saying that only the Intelligence Committees, not normally involved in writing civil liberties legislation (including notably the Patriot Act itself), will get such information. One of the most outrageous parts of the Patriot Act is that libraries are prohibited from publicly mentioning that they have been forced to turn over library records to the Justice Dept. and intelligence services. The privacy intrusion is bad enough but the lack of any public knowledge of the searches makes it worse. If the Judiciary Committee can't find out that information either, that creates a lack of accountability of government violating our privacy and surveying our ideological tastes that boggles the mind.
