<< A Blow for Open Justice | Main | Labor Day Monday >> September 02, 2002GOP to Push More Churches in PoliticsThe GOP will be introducing a bill to give churches greater leeway to engage in politics without losing their tax-exempt status. Which I think is a great idea. While I may not agree with what many of them would do with greater flexibility -- although I loved what Martin Luther King Jr. did from his pulpit -- my basic view is anything that encourages mass numbers of people to participate in politics is better than the corporate-dominated money politics we live with. Unions and churches are the best sources of mass involvement in politics, so rather than discouraging their participation, campaign finance laws should be encouraging them to involve more people in the political process.
