<< GOP Admits Massive Cuts in Social Programs | Main | God Bless America >> March 03, 2003Bush: Worst President in History? From Globe And Mail Veteran White House correspondent and columnist Helen Thomas has called George W. Bush "the worst president in all of American history." Do you agree? Posted by Nathan at March 3, 2003 10:56 PM Related posts:
Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: CommentsNo fair. I want an option for the position that GWB is the third worst president in history, after Buchanan and Pierce. (Leaving out poor William Henry Harrison, whose 28-day Administration can't really be judged against any other.) The one to beat is Buchanan, who stayed up all night playing poker with his buddies while the nation slid into civil war. Now, if Bush could manage an American Civil War of his own, or (rather more likely) a North Korean nuclear strike on a West Coast city, that might well get him the crown. More nuanced options in silly online polls! Posted by: Patrick Nielsen Hayden at March 4, 2003 08:42 AM I agree with you about Buchanan, Patrick. Not so sure about Pierce. Why was he any worse than, say, Andrew Johnson? However, Shrub may turn out to be the worst foreign policy President ever. Not that his domestic policy is any great shakes. Posted by: Paleo at March 4, 2003 10:57 AM Still nearly 70% yes! Thank you Canada! Posted by: Paleo at March 4, 2003 01:18 PM That was fun. I took it to mean the worst President in Helen's lifetime, so we don't have to factor in the guys who set the stage for the Civil War or Warren Harding. Let's be fair though, Pearce, Buchanan, Harding, Coolidge, & Hoover didn't do the damage Bush did in just over two years. Posted by: Chris at March 4, 2003 02:27 PM What about Nixon? After all, had there been no Nixon, there would be no Shrub, Cheney and Rumsfeld. Tricky Dick was Poppy's biggest benefactor, making him UN ambassador, ambassador to China and head of the RNC before Nixon's handpicked successor, Jerry Ford, named Poppy to head the CIA. And it was Ford and Nixon's alter ego, Henry K, who convinced Reagan to put Poppy on the ticket at the Detroit convention in 1980. Had there been no Poppy, there would be no Shrub. Nixon. From beyond the grave, his evil lives! Posted by: Paleo at March 4, 2003 03:12 PM I too vote for Shrub. Nixon at least did a few good things too. Bush has been, without exception, horrible. As for James Buchanan, I think you folks are taking an extremely biased view of his Presidency. At least he didn't kill 600,000 people. Posted by: bk at March 4, 2003 05:32 PM The last poster must be Pat Buchanan. Posted by: Paleo at March 4, 2003 05:56 PM Well, here is one Canadian who doesn't go along with the abuse heaped on W Bush. No criteria are given for judging "worst president" so who knows what people are talking about. But apart from criteria, here is a president who's shown determination to stand up to the European weasels and persist on liberating Iraq. I salute the USA. Posted by: Joseph Alexander Norland at March 4, 2003 08:23 PM ha! very funny Joseph Alex Norland... Hey. That was a joke, wasn't it? Wasn't it? Hey. WASN'T IT???? Posted by: plunkitt at March 4, 2003 11:00 PM Hey Joseph, Not to be picky or anything, but what on earth does liberating Iraq have to do with providing leadership on domestic issues such as our economy, education, international relations, health care....not that those issues matter much to y'all in Canada, but they're kinda important to those of us who have to live down below y'all, know what I mean??!! Posted by: Jim at April 18, 2003 09:39 AM GWB+CIA=WTC Posted by: ding at January 18, 2004 08:40 AM Bush's administration (?) is far and away the most shameless, avaricious bunch of varmints to come down the pike, ever. Are you a prayin' man? Better start now. Posted by: Jimmy Drumcheeks at February 16, 2004 09:15 PM Subject: Worst President In History? (now a word of caution because I'm not positive these numbers are precise) but if I read it correctly, there were 39 combat January. That's one American city folks, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq. Worst president in history? The following appeared in the Durham, NC local paper as a letter to the editor. Please forward to all on your list as this will put things in perspective: Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They complain about his prosecution of it. One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S. history. Let's clear up one point: We didn't start the war on terror. Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11. Let's look at the "worst" president and mismanagement claims. FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year. Truman finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions. In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled laughtered 300,000 of his own people. We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 30 a year. Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home. Worst president in history? Come on! The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but... It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!! Posted by: Michael Andrews at April 1, 2004 10:46 AM I did some research. The letter Michael Andrews posted appeared in The Herald-Sun, Durham, NC on January 20, 2004. It is signed by one MIKE MILLS, Bahama. -paul- Posted by: Paul E. Black at April 30, 2004 09:44 AM Post a comment
