Unintended Consequences

Apparently, we will be invading and withdraw aid to Turkey, leaving it to the economic chaos of its failing economy.

A good idea to punish countries that defy the US.

Just remember what happened after the 1991 Gulf War:

minutes after joining Cuba in rejecting the resolution authorizing force against Iraq, Yemen was told by an American diplomat that it would be "the most expensive `no' vote" it had ever cast. Soon after, the United States cut off Yemen's $70 million aid package.

Yeah, that was smart. Let a poor country sink further into chaos and desperation. The result? A chaotic breeding crowd like the Sudan and later Afghanistan where Al Qaeda now thrives:

Yemen is in a battle with itself, caught between its people's immediate needs and the West's global war against terrorism. With every attack, every American killed on its streets, Yemen loses more ground in its struggle to pull itself into modernity.

The reality is that "our friend" today -- Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein back in the 1980s for example -- easily become our enemy later on, while the countries we turn into enemies become breeding ground for terror as chaos descends and terrorists take advantage of desperation.

So let's have Turkey, a currently moderate and stable muslim country, collapse economically. Let's cut off economic aid.

That won't come back to bite us in the ass in ten years.
