One thing not to like about Dean is that he is a Likud supporter who sees eye to eye with AIPAC and thinks Bush is being too soft on Iran. Dean has modified his pro-AIPAC stance somewhat. No candidate is perfect. Kucinich's pro-flag amendment vote really bothered me. But I could support either one.

I support Dean although I don't agree with him on all of his positions. He demonstrates the political courage that I know that while I might not agree with him on everything I'm fairly sure he'll stick to the positions he's campaigned on once he's in the White House.

Kucinich's flip-flop on abortion bothers me as lot. Even more so than his vote to impeach President Clinton. For those reasons (besides being purely unelectable) I cannot support Kucinich.

I don't see how organizing people over the net translates (without further evidence) into a
focus on white professionals. There's a lot
more diversity on the net than there was a few
years ago. 50% of households are on line.

That being said, Dean does need to broaden his
apparent base. Should he win the nomination,
I'd like to see a VP nominee who is African-
American or latino/a, and female. How about
the AFLCIO's Linda Chavez-Thompson for VP?

The next big story in the campaign will be Wesley Clark getting in. His net roots support will ramp up very quickly.

I must add that even though his postions on the Mideast take him down a notch in my eyes, I will, nevertheless, enthusiastically vote for Dean should he win the nomination. I might even give his campaign some money at that point. Same for all the others, anything to kick Bush out on his ass - except for Lieberman, in which case I'll either vote Green or stay home and drown my sorrows.

Actually, Kucinich did not vote to impeach. He voted in support of a House impeachment inquiry. At the time, Kucinich stated that his rationale in so voting was to "let the president make his case. WHy not vote for Kucinich? He is more progressive than Dean and took a more active roll than Dean against Bush's war.
Dean is pro- death penalty and a pro-gun supporter. How does that make his supposed "anti-war" stance look? I think he is just taking advantage or the anti-Bush sentiment and will not change much as far as military policy or spending once he gets in. He looks like a pretend progressive to me!

To say Dean is "pro-gun" and "pro-death penalty" is to not pay attention to the issues. Dean is pro States rights on guns--namely bc New York's gun problems shouldn't necessarily dictate Vermont's gun policies. Dean will not repeal the Assault Weapons Ban, nor will he kowtow to the NRA. This is pure tactics on his part and it makes him more, not less electable.

On the Death Penalty, it's clear that Dean is not Bush. Dean supports the death penalty for certain extreme cases--cop killers, high treason, child killers. Granted--not ideal, but politically astute and very mainstream. By focusing on who he would kill, he deflects attention from who he wouldn't kill--large numbers of African Americans, etc.

Plus, it's a non-issue for a President bc there are not a lot of federal Death Row prisoners.
