<< Silliness of Dean-McGovern Comparison | Main | SEIU: Remaking 2004 Election >> September 09, 2003Rumsfeld Lies Tying Iraq-Al QuaedaWhy do the American people think that Iraq was behind the 911 attack? Because the Bush administration continues to lie and imply in every way that they were linked. And Rumfeld trumps the lie by accusing his critics of essentially treason for pointing out the lie and criticizing the Iraq War for making the threat of terror more likely. With more Americans thinking the war has increased the likelihood of terror than helping to stop it, Rumsfeld and Bush should stop playing their neo-McCarthyite card and engage in an honest debate on their failed policy in Iraq. Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: CommentsThe only way the administration can hope to extricate itself from the mess it's created, is to continue to hype the Iraq-9/11 link. Notice how BUsh has redrawn the argument for the Iraq war from threat of WMD to it being the major battlefield in the "war on terror." It's the only option he has. The average American, none too bright and plenty gullible to begin with, sees that remark on TV or hears it on the radio and says to himself, "Hmm, we can't afford to lose a battle in the war on terror. We've got to stay and kick ass!" So we'll continue to have foreign policy experts like Roger CLemens and George Pataki believing Iraq sponsored 9/11. Pre-9/11, I used to think Rumsfeld was an amusing character for his brusque manner. Now I recognize him for the professional liar that he is. Remember the day he stated "I don't think we're going to find WMD's in Iraq?" After months of harping on that issue, this idiot comes out and virtually admits it was a lie! There;s no subtlety in this administration. THey just don't give a shit. It says something about this country-- that in an age when information is more readily and easily available than at any time in our history, the populace can be so easily duped by the administration, time and time again. Posted by: ALan Katz at September 9, 2003 07:41 AM As someone said, this administration uses one lies as the basis for a new lie. So the lie about WMD is used to create the lie that the war was actually because Iraq is a terrorist hot bed, when the truth is that the war created the terrorist threat. Rumsfeld sounds just like Nixon circa 1970. Posted by: Paleo at September 9, 2003 12:15 PM Why should they engage in honest debate instead of just repeating lies?
