<< Foreign Labor Stealing Jobs- In Iraq | Main | Tax Elderly Good, Tax Rich Bad >> October 16, 2003Arnie: Construction Industry GuyLet's be clear that Arnie is a true blue politician. He lied through his teeth in his campaign, no lie greater than his claim not to be taking "special interest" money while pocketing $1.3 million in contributions from Central Valley and southern California developers to finance his campaign-- and who knows how much more paying off his personal campaign debt (a nice trick where contributors can directly enrich Arnie, pure legalized bribery.) The payoff has been immediate: Schwarzenegger has also appointed two veteran developers to his transition team - Rick J. Caruso, who builds upscale Southern California shopping centers, and Eli Broad, co-founder of KB Homes, one of the nation's most prolific suburban homebuilders since World War II...So the man from the California Building Industry Association is just playing "pay to play" politics on the wealthy developer team. Update: Although I didn't want to sleight Enron and the energy industry as Arnie's political masters. Posted by Nathan at October 16, 2003 12:24 AM Related posts:
Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: CommentsYou know, Nathan, it seems like no matter how much dirt we dig up on Republicans, it still only applies to non-Republicans. Sometimes I think Arnold could be shown on live national TV groping Hillary Clinton right in front of his wife and it will be Hillary who gets the bad press. The American People prove to me daily that there are far too many hypocritical idiots out there for democracy to remain viable in Corporatist America. Posted by: pessimist at October 16, 2003 09:52 AM There's more, Nathan. Schwarzenegger is pushing energy deregulation. Remember that meeting he attended with Riordan, Milken, and Enron's Ken Lay in 2001? The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights has written him a letter demanding to know what went on in that meeting. In case you don't already have it, the list of Arnold's entire transition team is here. One member is Bob Grady, who heads the Carlyle Group's venture capital funds. Posted by: Trish Wilson at October 16, 2003 06:29 PM Never forget that before he was famous, Arnie used to be a scab bricklayer who would destroy chimneys, then charge homeowners to rebuild them.
