<< Bush Loses on Patronage Vote | Main | Don't Know What You've Got... >> September 12, 2003Dean Right on IsraelIt's odd, despite my antiwar stance, Dean really didn't pull me in to support on that issue. But given his strength on labor issues, his strong stand on fair treatment of the Palestinians and for the US acting as a honest broker may have done the trick. The irony is that Dean is being attacked for this statement: "There is a war going on in the Middle East, and members of Hamas are soldiers in that war," Dean said Wednesday. The problem? Hamas are terrorists and should not be dignified with the description "soldiers," supposedly. But the weird thing is that the quote was made in the context of Dean saying Israel had the right to kill Hamas folks off. The second half of the sentence after the phrase above (deleted from the Fox quote) was: and, therefore, it seems to me that they are going to be casualties if they are going to make war.Talk about a ridiculous attack. Here he was questioned about Israel's selectively killing the leaders of Hamas-- a dicy act under international law and UN resolutions -- and he SUPPORTS Israel, yet he gets attacked? Why? Because he also is calling for Israel to give up large numbers of settlements in the name of peace and argue that the US has to act as a fair broker for peace negotiations. Kerry has also attacked Dean for his comments supporting an honest broker role for the US in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I think this just about officially signs me up for the Dean camp. Also this- which has meaning for my family. I think Dean's got me. Posted by Nathan at September 12, 2003 04:42 PM Related posts:

Posted by: chuck at September 12, 2003 11:06 PM jdw-- So you still think Bush will win? Posted by: Nathan at September 13, 2003 12:28 AM Yes. But I'm a little more optimistic that you'll be right. In a just world- with a real press- his approvals would be at 30%. Posted by: jdw at September 13, 2003 12:37 AM Bush doesn't have a prayer unless he rigs the voting machines. Look around at some of the articles starting to appear in some of the major newspapers. Note that the networks have started relating the number of wounded (those that are announced, at least.) Small signs everywhere that the press is staring to give up on him. And this will only increase. Look at the red states of Ohio and South Carolina, slammed with job losses in manufacturing, and these jobs are not coming back. What you are seeing now is only the cracks in the facade, but they are becoming obvious to more and more people, and we are still over a year away from the election. Heck, 51% of Americans are OPPOSED to Bush's $87 billion request! Try to even imagine a figure like that even a few months ago. Nope. We have time on our side. Bush is going down, and he is going down hard. BTW: Don't miss Thursday's Paul Krugman, especially his closing remarks. We are in for a wild and dirty ride. For a view of how wild, see Chris Floyd's (Moscow Times) latest. We ain't seen nothing yet. Posted by: Benedict@Large at September 13, 2003 08:24 PM Bush will still be elected. 70% of Americans believe that Iraq was behind 9-11. Americans are stupid. They believe what they are told to believe. They have no critical thinking skills. They are basically - chowderheads. Most AMericans will vote for Bush in 2004 because the media as a whole will tell them it is their patriotic duty. I have no hope - screw the cretins. I hope more of them loose their factory jobs - and call Rush to complain.
