Anti-Choicers Use Camera as Weapon
A Wall Street Journal article detail a new tactic of abortion protesters using cameras to intimidate mothers seeking abortions. Pictures are often uploaded to an Abortioncams.com site so that scared mothers can fear pictures of them entering clinics will follow them for the rest of their life. Some mothers are suing for violations of their right to medical privacy. I generally hate libel or other laws that try to quash social debate, and however hand-to-hand, this is little different from the civil rights or union protests that have often targetted individual targets over the years. But a better solution than targetting free speech is moving abortion out of clinics and back into regular hospitals, where patients would blend into the general medical population. Patients, doctors and other abortion providers could no longer be so easily targetted by the crazies in the anti-choice movement.Posted by Nathan at May 28, 2002 10:46 AM
