Preempting State Drivers Licensing

Again, so much for federalism.

Now Ashcroft and company are talking about taking over regulation of driver's licenses, mostly in order to block states from granting them to undocumented immigrants.

The California legislature passed a bill to license undocumented immigrants last year, only to have it vetoed by Governor Davis. Now, they are debating it again.

And the rightwing doesn't like it, so why not use the rhetoric of homeland security to launch another attack on immigrants?
