Bush Promises $200 Billion Plus Deficits
I missed this one from Bush's speech, but USATODAY points out:
What Bush said: If Congress will "focus on priorities" and "cut wasteful spending ... we can cut the deficit in half over the next five years."With the deficit projected to be around $450 billion this year, this is just a promise to get the deficit down to a level that would have appalled the American people if he had admitted that's what his program would cost for the whole decade.Context: The White House goal of cutting the deficit in half in five years is a lowering of the bar — a tacit admission that deficits are here to stay until at least 2009.
One more lying lie-- kind of like we discovered "programs" for WMDs. A sly one, that Bush.
