Two Cheers for Iraqi Elections

That Iraqis would exercise their right to go to the polls is encouraging, but you have to have a skeptical eye on an election where many of the candidates were afraid to be listed publicly. Given the known divide in the Iraqi population over the US presence in the country, the lack of clear election debate on the matter between the main coalitions is telling.

But the elections are a good thing, maybe the only good thing to come out of the Iraq invasion so far.
