THE Politics Story

The New Republic bemoans that a likely result of McCain-Feingold's campaign finance limits will be a shift of control over Democratic donor money from national party headquarters to more ideological groups. In fact, progressive orgs are already organizing coordinating committees between feminists, environmentalists, labor and other groups to target TV ads and candidate support. To the horror of the New Republic, this means instead of DLC-types controlling national money, a board headed by reps from the AFL-CIO, NARAL, the League of Conservation Voters, Association of Trial Lawyers and other liberal types will be directing political money across the country. While I've written about my skepticism of McCain-Feingold, I always hoped that more money would flow through progressive hands rather than as soft money to the parties. It looks like that hope will come true :)
