"I Get Very Queasy"

"I get very queasy when federal law enforcement is effectively saying go back to the bad old days, when the FBI was spying on people like Martin Luther King." So says not some raving civil libertarian but the rather law-and-order GOP chair of the House Judiciary Committee, F. James Sensenbrenner Jr.
... What is clear is that the FBI was incompetent handling the data and information they had available under old guidelines, information that was pretty extensive as the coverup has slowly been exposed. As with all of the response post-911, rather than reform pervasive incompetence, the Bush administration feels it is better to hand those incompetents more unrestrained police powers and given those incompetents wider latitude to abuse citizen civil liberties.
... Is it just me, or does such incompetence inspire even less willingness to trust them than even my normal cvil libertarian soul would allow?
