Feinstein Stabs Labor in the Back

Sen. Feinstein has announced her support for using the anti-union Taft-Hartley Act against West Coast longshore workers-- a massive betrayal of the union voters who helped elect her.

I have to admit that I have voted Green in only one federal election and it was against Feinstein when she first ran for Senate. While she votes well on many issues, she tends to stab progressives in the back on top profile issues-- such as this lockout and in supporting Bush's tax cut in 2001, which pretty much cancels out any good of the rest of her votes. With Torricelli gone -- the other Senator from a pretty safe Democratic state who supported the Bush plan -- it's time for California Dems to mount a primary challenge to Feinstein when she comes up for reelection in 2006.

Oh and a reminder to your friends-- it's the employers who locked out the longshore workers and shut down the ports. This is not a strike, no matter how many times commentators stupidly describe it that way. Rewarding the employers for a lockout with a Taft-Hartley injunction they want is as anti-labor an act as is possible for Bush to commit.
