Google and Blogs

I don't know if Google just readjusted their algorithms, but I've suddenly had a spike in links from Google searches.

And I bet other blogs may be have the same thing happening. For example, if you type in the following keywords "trent lott racist statement" this is the Google Search result.

I end up at the top of the list (shocking to me), with the Daily Kos and Off the Kuff right near the top as well.

Of course, our heading the google list also reflects the failure of the major media to cover the story, but I've noticed similar google surges in other areas.

One other possibility is that it also reflects the accumulation of cross-links between blogs and from other sources, which naturally moves us up the google hierarchy of links. In any case, it does seem to reflect a bit of an advance for blogs as a social medium when we are beating out major media as the "best" info according to Google :)
