Sharon Bullies Party Back
Unfortunately, Sharon has won a victory over the large Israeli religious party, Shas, which represents the poorest sectors of mostly Jews who emigrated from the Arab states. Shas had left the government over cuts in aid to the poor, but Sharon bullied them into essentially unconditional surrender and they are returning to the government. So to fuel his war against Palestinian's poverty-racked population, he is gutting aid to Israel's poor to pay for his campaign. Depressing...
