Everyday Crimes

Feel like committing a crime? How about fast forwarding through a commercial. Or maybe just creating a link in a web page.
...Or so various lawsuits are now arguing. Paramount recently sued the creator of ReplayTV, a digital video recording device, because it allows customers to easily skip commercials. Now at least the customers, backed by EFF, are fighting back in a counter lawsuit to affirm their rights. (See the nice explanation at LawMeme).
...As for linking to web sites, a number of companies have been suing anyone who links to their content, fearing they will lose advertising revenue. MSNBC has a good article on the lawsuits. So far, the law has generally supported the right to link, but Google and a number of other sites routinely remove links when pressured to do so.
