Blogging from Iraq

Where is Raed, is a blogger from inside Iraq as he claims. Now that the war has started, promoting democracy and self-determination for Iraqis should be the focus of the peace and justice movement.

Democratic control by the people of Iraq of government, democratic control by the people of Iraq of oil resources, democratic respect for minority rights. As the selling out of the Kurds and the deals already being cut with Haliburton and other US oil firms show, democracy is not the goal of the Bush folks.

This Iraqi blogger has this post about whether he is for real.

Agreed, Nathan. There's no stopping the violence (listening and watching the barrage right now on CNN), so we must insist that Bush live up to his stated promises -- which I highly doubt he will.

Absolutely agree.

It seems that an important point to make after the war - if Iraq is really to be a democracy and if Iraq's oil is to be used for the benefit of the Iraqi people - is that the Iraqi people should be able to take bids (or not) from any companies that are needed for reconstruction purposes. The Bush Administration apparently has already awarded the contracts to companies like Halliburton. On what authority did they make these awards? And who will pay for these contracts? It's not clear to me. Will the money come directly from U.S. taxpayers (in which case Bush finally put together a jobs program - only for Iraq, not Ohio) or will it come from revenues generated by Iraqi oil? In the latter case, the Iraqis surely had better have a say in who does the reconstruction work and at what price.

I exchanged some emails with Salam Pax, and pointed him to some of our blogs. He says he lived in Europe for 14 years, and also speaks very good German. On the whole, I think I believe him.

I have noticed since the war started that it has dawned on me that this about oil. Dont you think it is ironic that a month ago is was WMD(weapons of mass destruction). But the name of the war is Iraqi Freedom. Why should my country liberate another country and use its oil to rebuild it. If we broke it we bought it. In America today killers, rapist, gangs, drug dealers, corporate corruption, etc. And some how we can go half way round the globe to liberate people when there so many problems here we havent fixed. Haliburton is awarded the contracts to fix the iraqi oil. hmmm that seems odd dont you think since VP Cheney was there old boss. There are some dumb Americans in this country, all you hear we need to rid Saddam from there okay thats fine but what will happen after that. It will take such and such to rebuild Iraq. We should not attack in the first place. Im amashed of my congress that got scared to use there check and balances on the president. In the next election i wll not vote for any and i mean anyone who supported this. To many politicans thinking about there political careers American has lost its credibility in the world. Now there are no superpowers, a superpower has to have diplomatic strength as well as military might. To be honest we couldnt persuade crap from anyone, unless we pay them. Another thing how can we give other countries money, but there isnt enough for homeland security and here one thats going to get your attention "education" i wonder what happen to this debate. 9/11 was sad in all, but hey we move on, im sorry for the families. Dont use that as excuse to justify Iraq it doesnt go together. I also see the United States plan. First Afgahnistan, next Iraq, after that North Korea, then Iran, Syria, Pakistan and India, the whole African continent, and any counrty that disagrees with United States plans to imperialize the world into democratic free nation similar to America. The new world order, the name of the planet Earth will be offically change to America.

Isn't it great to live in a free country...where we can sit in our nice comfy homes, argue politics, and ignore the injustices of the oppressed. Thanks to all the soldiers that have died for me to have this freedom!
