One more assault on Federal workers

Bush has slashed a promised pay raise for federal workers. This article notes that legislation had been designed to bring federal worker pay up to comparable job pay in the private sector, with expected adjustments of 18.6%. Bush has slashed the raises to 3.1%.

Nathan, you missed the best part of this story:
"In a letter addressed to congressional leaders, Bush said 'full statutory civilian pay increases in 2003 would interfere with our nation's ability to pursue the war on terrorism.' The letter was released last night."

Do you think Bush asks Laura to pass the salt by saying "Lack of salt on these mashed potatoes is interefering with our nation's ability to pursue the war on terrorism"?

Given Bush's concern about $1 billion in civilian pay increases, it's surprising he didn't comment on whether a trillion dollars in tax cuts might "interfere with our nation's ability to fight the war on terrorism".
